Doodling boosts your creativity

by Leigh Andrews on 26 May 2010

Writers commonly get hit with writer’s block – even if you know what you want to say, you just don’t have the words to express your thoughts properly.

I’ve mentioned WILB (Workplace Internet Leisure Browsing) before, but distraction value often comes in a much simpler form than playing games and watching videos online, and cheaper, too, as daydreaming and doodling have been proven to boost one’s creativity. Your brain is making connections while your hand makes aimless patterns on the page. You can even go so far as to analyse what your particular doodles say about your frame of mind at the time. With daydreaming, you go to your ‘happy place’ in your mind, which often results in a more positive outlook and the ability to solve problems that were previously plaguing you.

So the next time you see a colleague staring off into space or drawing circles on a page, they may be giving their creativity a boost!
